Cleveland reggae legend David Smeltz will perform and talk about his life as co-founder of the 1970′-80’s group I-tal and as a recovered addict and current executive director of Clean House, Inc. David was riding high with his band in the 80’s when things turned drastically in the 1990’s. He found himself homeless and strung out until 2001 when he turned his life around. His book, CLEAN: From Reggae to Recovery, discusses his experiences, and copies will be available for sale with all proceeds benefiting Clean House, Inc. David Smeltz attended Ohio State University and earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science from Cuyahoga Community College in 1996. He is employed as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and is currently employed by University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1978, David started and continues to play in the first American Reggae band in the state of Ohio. The reggae band, I-tal, entertains audiences to this day. In 2010, David started a 501(c) 3 non profit named Clean House Inc. in which he serves as Executive Director. Clean House Inc. was established as a transitional housing program for men recovering from alcohol and substance abuse. It also serves as a center for 12 step recovery and martial arts instruction. David is also a 3rd Dan Orange Sash in the martial arts discipline of Kuntao. He studied under the late Grandmaster Arthur E. Sikes. David believes in the integration of body, mind , and spirit. He leads a mostly vegan lifestyle and incorporates martial arts, nutrition, and music as a positive and healthy way of life. David’s first book “Clean: From Reggae to Recovery” was released in April 2014. His book details his struggle with addiction and his successful drug and alcohol- free lifestyle since April 20, 2001. www.cleanhouseinc.org
